Volkswagen Vento follows Volkswagen windy culture

Volkswagen has had a tradition of naming its cars after wind currents. The much awaited sedan from Volkswagen has been named Vento, which means wind in Italian and Portuguese, thus keeping to its tradition. Vento however is not a new name in the automobile sector as the third-generation Jetta was renamed ‘Vento’ for the European market way back in the early 1990's.

Volkswagen Vento shares a common platform with its latest hatchback Volkswagen Polo. It is a news in the industry that Volkswagen has been targeting the luxury sedan segment in India that is presently captures by Honda City. The engineers at Volkswagen have intelligently used Honda City as the benchmark and have crafted the best-in-class comfort.

Keeping Indian families in mind, the boot space would be around 500 litres and would come with the split seat option. Vento would come in both petrol and Diesel variants both offering 1.6 litres and produce 105 bhp. Volkswagen Vento has a four-valve head and double overhead camshafts.

It is speculated that the petrol variant may not match the Honda City in terms of pace but the Diesel Version should be a close match for the 110 bhp Verna diesel. Initially both the petrol and diesel variants would come in five-speed manual transmissions but there are chances that DSG gearbox might be introduced in the top end diesel.

Launching it against Honda City, Volkswagen would price Vento in the range of Rs 7-9 lakh and might be launched in the month of July 2010. It would be the closest rivalry that would be witnessed in the year 2010 for automobile lovers.
