Volkswagen Passat Breaks Its Previous World Mileage Record
The ultra fuel-efficient Volkswagen Passat has broken its previous record of covering 1526.6 miles using a single tank of diesel. This previous record was set by the Volkswagen Passat 1.6 BlueMotion® diesel and has been beaten by VW Passat SE TDI Clean Diesel Vehicle. The Passat SE TDI engine is coupled to a six-speed manual transmission and has covered record-breaking 1626.1 miles using a single tank of ultra-low sulfur diesel. This record has been set by John and Helen Taylor who have driven this car under real world conditions.
This driving spree lasted for three days and spanned over nine states. The journey’s average was about 84.1 miles per gallon or 35.71 km per liter, so the couple spent only 4.65 cents for traveling a mile. The journey commenced on May 3rd 2012 at Houston in Texas and concluded on 5th May 2012 at Sterling in Virginia. The couple left no stone unturned in an attempt to make the journey as realistic as possible, firstly, in order to face normal traffic situations they drove mostly during day time, secondly, they took turns for driving and made sure that they do not travel for more than 14 hours in a day and lastly they included a luggage of around 120 pounds.
