VinFast Planning To Enter Indian Market, Get To Know The Brand And Its Cars
The Vietnamese manufacturer has multiple electric SUVs available globally, four of which could be launched in India

Amidst the growing EV market in India, another carmaker is planning to make its debut. Vietnam’s VinFast, an EV maker much like Tesla, is planning to start its operations in the country. And recent reports say, the brand has its eyes set on Ford’s manufacturing facility in Chennai for the same. So here's a look at the brand, and the cars it can bring.
What Is VinFast?
VinFast is a Vietnamese brand which is fairly new in this industry. The carmaker started its operations in 2017 in Vietnam and is the only carmaker in its home country to expand globally. The company started off by selling models based on BMW cars in Vietnam along with a few electric scooters and soon started making its own electric cars.

In 2021, VinFast launched three electric cars, two new electric scooters, and an electric bus in Vietnam. Out of the three cars, two of them were for the global markets, and in 2022, the brand set up its showrooms in the US, Europe and Canada. Now, with the growth of EVs in India, VinFast is planning to enter the country as a major player.
Expected Models
VinFast might start bringing models in India as CBUs (completely built-up units) and once the carmaker sets up a facility in the country, it can bring its cars as CKD (completely knocked down) units. Here are some of the cars that we can see from VinFast in India.
VinFast VF7: The VF7 could be brought to India as a CBU offering once the brand enters India. The electric SUV gets a 73.5kWh battery pack with a WLTP claimed range of up to 450km. In the Indian market, it is expected to be priced from Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards.
VinFast VF8: Another CBU offering from VinFast can be the VF8. The coupe-SUV is bigger than the VF7 and gets an 87.7kWh battery pack with a dual-motor setup. It gets a WLTP-claimed range of up to 425km and may be priced from Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards.
VinFast VFe34: The most affordable electric SUV from VinFast can be launched in India when the carmaker sets up its manufacturing facility. In its home market, it gets a 41.9kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 319km. The VFe34, in India, can be priced from Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards.
VinFast VF6: The VinFast VF6 is a Creta-sized electric SUV which gets a 59.6kWh battery pack. The electric SUV claims a WLTP-certified range of up to 400km and can be priced from Rs 35 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards to go on the likes of the BYD Atto 3.
India Plan
As of now, there is no clear date when VinFast will start its operations in India, but we expect that the brand will make its entry into India sometime next year. With the start of its operations, VinFast’s first offering for the country can be launched by 2025.
