Tata motors is all set to unveil the Tiago EV on September 28. In a recent teaser from the carmaker, Tata confirmed that the electric hatchback will feature cruise control and regenerative braking, just like the Nexon EV.
These two important features are currently missing from the Tigor EV and will increase the practicality of the Tiago EV. The adjustable regenerative braking, which comes with three modes, helps recover the energy lost during braking and converts it into electricity to charge the EV’s battery, thereby increasing driving range. Meanwhile, cruise control will help maximise the powertrain’s range and efficiency on highways.

The Tiago EV is likely to be powered by the same 26kWh battery as the Tigor EV and might use the same 75PS motor as well. This powertrain is expected to have an ARAI-claimed range of 306km for the hatchback. Using a 50kW DC fast charger, this battery can be juiced up from 10-80 per cent in 65 minutes.
The Tiago EV will be equipped with a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, keyless entry, auto AC and steering-mounted controls. Passenger safety will be ensured by dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors.

The Tiago EV will not only be the most affordable EV, but also the first electric hatchback in the country. It is expected to have an introductory starting price of Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). The Tiago EV will have no direct rivals at launch.
