Toyota showcases Next-Gen Innova Crysta at Auto Expo 2016

Toyota has showcased the next-gen Innova called the 'Innova Crysta' at the ongoing Auto Expo. Prior to its Indian unveil, Toyota had launched the next-gen Innova in Indonesia, last year. The current generation of Innova has been present in our market for more than a decade now and feels a bit dated in front of its competitors.

The new Innova Crysta also gets a full cosmetic revamp. It features a massive hexagonal front grille with two slats in chrome, projector head-lights with LED daytime running lamps, new fog lamps and new bumpers. It will also be more spacious than the outgoing model, thanks to the bigger dimensions. The new Innova is 4735 mm in length, about 150 mm longer than the older one, about 35 mm taller at 1795 mm and about 65 mm wider at 1830 mm wide. But, the wheelbase is identical at 2750 mm, which means interior space is largely the same.

Innova has always set a benchmark in this segment when it boils down to interior quality, fit and finish. It has remained the crown winner for its interior’s quality, fit and finishing in the segment. The situation is similar for the new model as well. The dash with wooden inserts, along with a modern instrument cluster and an advanced eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system - will surely put it ahead of its competitors. The infotainment system further comprises of DLNA, web browser, smartphone, Air gesture and Miracast. Apart from these, automatic climate control, power windows and illumination lamps are also featured.

Next-gen Innova is now powered by an all-new 2.4-litre 2GD FTV four-cylinder diesel engine. This mill develops 149PS of power and a peak torque of 342Nm. The engine further comes paired to a five-speed manual or the all-new six-speed automatic gearbox optionally, with regards to the respective trim. On the safety front, top-end variant of the new Innova is most likely to be equipped with 7 airbags. ABS, EBD, Brake assist and dual-airbags will be standard across the range.

The strong points of the Innova will continue with the new model too, such as its reputation as a reliable long-distance people-mover, Toyota’s fuss-free ownership experience and its comfortable seating for seven or eight passengers. It will surely be the next big blow from the Japanese automaker in the MUV lineup and will further strengthen the company’s position in the domestic market.
