Good news for the resident of our capital! If you want to get ahead of the odd-even rule and are on a lookout for a premium-ish sedan, then look no further. The Indian subsidiary of the world’s largest automaker might be bringing its Hybrid Corolla sedan to the 2016 Indian Auto Expo, which serendipitously is also being held in Greater Noida region. Special considerations and concessions made by the Delhi government promote the use of electric and hybrid vehicles, which are exempted from the odd-even rule. Capitalising on this opportunity, there is a possibility that Toyota might launch the hybrid version of its Corolla Altis sedan sometime after the Auto Expo showcase.

Let’s cut to the crux of the car, the powerplant. The hybrid Corolla Altis incorporates a 1.5-litre Atkinson Cycle petrol engine, which produces 73bhp of power output. This petrol mill is paired with a 60bhp electric motor in a configuration which the Japanese automaker denotes as the Toyota Hybrid system II. If you think that this makes the hybrid Corolla a 130bhp+ sedan, then you would be wrong. The combined output of the motors will only amount to 99bhp. The sedan claims a fuel-efficiency of 33kmpl in its Japan-spec models. In India however, you can expect the fuel-efficiency to fall somewhere in the ballpark of 25kmpl.

These are astonishing figures, considering the fact that Corolla Altis is a full-size premium petrol sedan, which incorporates innovative technologies to offer a fuel-economy which rivals that of entry-level hatchbacks like Renault Kwid.
