Tata Motors plans for a small car to compete with Alto

Auto major Tata Motors intends to introduce a new small car which will be positioned between Tata Indica and Tata Nano. The company plans to launch this small car to take on Maruti Alto. Carl Peter commented that it is a widespace which requires to be addressed. He said this on the occasion of the launch of the new Tata Aria.

At present, Maruti Alto is the largest selling hatchback in the Indian market. With the launch of the new small car, Tata Motors wants to compete directly with the Alto. The new small car of the company is expected to be introduced during the initial months of the year 2012. The people, aware of the development and the sources close to the matter said that the new small car from Tata Motors will be powered by an 800cc engine. The sources also say that this small car of Tata will be a totally indigenized product. The work of the car is presently in process. For the particular components of the new car, the vendors have been approached, added the source.

The launch of the new small car is definitely a logical move for Tata Motors because the company is thinking of having products at every price point. Presently, the portfolio of Tata Motors include the various products like Tata Nano, Tata Indica, Tata Indigo, Tata Manza, Tata Sumo, Tata Safari and the new Tata Aria. The new Tata Aria has been launched recently by the company and it is one of the most ambitious launch of the company in the premium segment. The new Aria is priced at Rs 13.18 lakh-Rs 15.85 lakh. In the crossover space, the model will take on Mahindra Xylo and Toyota Innova. The model has got a superb exterior appearance and in the first glance, it looks like Toyota Innova. The front appearance of Tata Aria offers an aggressive look.
