Tata Motors Launches Nano GenX at Rs 1.99 lac
The homegrown car manufacturer Tata Motors today launched the Nano GenX at Rs 1.99 lac. Tata has introduced Nano GenX in five variants XE, XM, XT with manual gearbox and XMA and XTA with an Automated gearbox. The XM variant is priced at Rs 2.29 lac, the XT at 2.49 lac, XMA at Rs 2.69 lac while the XTA is priced at Rs 2.89 lac. Dealers have already started taking booking of the Nano GenX at an upfront payment of Rs 5,000.
Indian automobile giant Tata has unveiled the latest version of it’s cheapest hatchback - the Nano. The GenX Nano starts at a 1.99 lakhs for the XE variant and goes up to 2.49 lakhs for the XT variant. The GenX Nano sees the debut of the AMT or ‘Easy Shift’ on the little Tata with prices starting at 2.69 lakhs for the XMA variant and 2.89 lakhs for the top of the line XTA variant. All prices are ex-showroom Delhi. The XMA variant shall be made to order and be available on sale post-August 2015.
At 2.69 lakhs, the GenX Nano easy shift is now the cheapest AMT car available on sale in India at the moment. The Nano retains the same design as the previous two versions. There are subtle changes to the exterior viz. reworked front and rear bumpers with infinity motif grille and smoked headlamps. The biggest change to the exterior of the Nano is the openable rear hatch door that debuts on the GenX Nano.
The boot space measures at 110L for the manual Nano and 94L for the AMT variant. The interiors on the Nano sport a new steering wheel, identical to the unit on the Zest and the Bolt, albeit without steering mounted controls. It retains the electronic power steering that debuted with the Nano Twist. The dashboard is finished in beige and houses a centrally located instrument cluster. The instrument cluster has amber backlighting and features a first in class ‘Digital Information Display’. The Nano also gets an inbuilt music system with Bluetooth, CD, Radio, USB and AUX options. The spacious interior remains relatively unchanged with Tata claiming 4% more shoulder room and 6% more legroom than it’s competitors.
The Nano has also been upgraded on safety with the inclusion of crumple zones, anti-roll bars and intrusion beams. This has been done to maintain the structural rigidity of the car since it now sports an opening hatch. The Nano is powered by a rear-mounted 624CC two-cylinder engine with 38bhp of power and 51nm of torque on tap. The new AMT box has 5 ratios instead of 4 - as seen on the manual Nano. Tata has also heard the pleas of existing Nano owners and given it a larger - 24-litre fuel tank as opposed to the previous generation’s 15-litre capacity.
Tata plans on aiming the GenX Nano squarely at the likes of the Alto800, AltoK10 and the Hyundai Eon. The option of the automatic at a mere 2.69 lakhs makes the Nano a very tempting buy for the first time buyer.
