It is expected to be based on the Volkswagen Group’s new MEB platform (modular electric drive).

Skoda has teased a new concept ahead of the upcoming 2017 Auto Shanghai next month. It is christened the Vision E, and is all set to become the first all-electric model from the Czech automaker, which comes under the VW Group’s umbrella. It is expected to be based on the Volkswagen Group’s new MEB platform (modular electric drive).

Skoda has not revealed much about the new Vision E concept, apart from the murky teaser picture of a coupe-ish looking crossover. It will be based on Skoda’s new design language, and if you look closely the lights and contours hint of Skoda’s first full-size, India-bound SUV – the Kodiaq. The automaker highlighted that its new design language – which cars like the Superb, Kodiaq, and others adorn – features “Harmonious proportions, clean-cut lines, bold contours and crystalline features (which) are combined to create a design that places a focus on precision and clarity”.

Speaking of its platform, VW Group’s MEB platform (modular electric drive) made its debut with the VW I.D. concept at the 2016 Paris Motor Show in September. The Vision E is also expected to be based on this modular platform designed specifically for electric cars. According to Volkswagen, the production version of the I.D. concept will go on sale in 2020 and the Vision E’s production version is also likely to be revealed around the same time, but of course, with a different name! Also, this I.D. concept, which will sit below the Vision E concept in terms of pricing, is promised to come with a range of 400-600 km, along with rapid charging offering 80 percent charge in 30 minutes.
