The Sportz is one of the two variants that will feature the 6-speed iMT clutchless manual gearbox with the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine

Update (05/11/2020):Hyundai has launched the third-gen i20 with prices beginning from Rs 6.79 lakh (ex-showroom). Read more about it here.

  • The spied Sportz variant is seen in Starry Night body shade and appears to be diesel powered.

  • It features dark-finished flex wheels, shark fin antenna, and a smaller 8-inch touchscreen system.

  • The Sportz will be available with four powertrain options: 1.2-litre petrol engine with manual or CVT, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol with clutchless manual, and 1.5-litre diesel manual.

  • Hyundai is expected to price the new i20 in the range of Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).

The third-gen Hyundai i20 has started reaching dealerships ahead of its scheduled launch on November 5. We have now got our hands on a few images of the second-to-base Sportz variant. It is seen in the new Starry Night exterior shade that was introduced with the facelifted Verna.

Although the front and rear ends are covered, our dealer sources have confirmed that the Sportz variant will be offered with incandescent bulbs, instead of the LED projector headlamps that are reserved for the second-to-top Asta and top-spec Asta (O) variants. The images also go on to reveal the dark-finished flex wheels (mimicking the style of alloy wheels) of the Sportz variant that seems to get 16-inch wheels.

Hyundai will offer the Sportz variant with an all-black cabin. The images also reveal a shark fin antenna, manual AC, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system (likely with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay) instead of the bigger 10.25-inch unit in the range-topping variants, and steering-mounted audio and calling controls. Although it’s unclear in the image, the Sportz variant is likely to feature a semi-digital instrument cluster as well. In the higher-specced variants, Hyundai will offer a sunroof, auto AC, and an air purifier. Safety features are likely to include up to six airbags, electronic stability control, and rear parking sensors.

The spied Sportz variant could be equipped with a 1.5-litre diesel (100PS/240Nm) as it has a 6-speed manual. It is not the Sportz Turbo variant as the iMT (clutchless manual) badge is missing on the front fenders as well as the sportier red highlights in the cabin are absent. It is also unlikely to be the 1.2-litre petrol engine as it gets a 5-speed manual. For a detailed look at the variant-wise engine options, head here

Hyundai will be offering the new i20 with the Venue’s engines including the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit (120PS/172Nm) that will come mated to either a 6-speed iMT (clutchless manual) or a 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch transmission). The 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit will be paired either to a 5-speed manual or a CVT gearbox. On the other hand, the 1.5-litre diesel will be offered only with a 6-speed manual transmission option.

We expect the third-gen i20’s prices to range between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). It will rekindle its rivalry with the Tata Altroz, Maruti Suzuki Baleno/Toyota Glanza, VW Polo and Honda Jazz.
