Hyundai is in for a kill and it is clear that the Korean automotive maker won’t compromise on any aspect. The Grand i10 and the XCent have been a success and now riding on this, Hyundai will launch the Elite i20. There isn’t much of a difference in the dimensions of the i20 and the Elite. The new Elite will replace the existing i20.

To begin with, this gets the new generation Fluidic Design 2.0 and this design is a lot subtler than before. Again, the Elite i20 has been tweaked for Indian customers and it gets rear AC vents to cool the interiors faster. It has push start and stop, climate control, two 12V sockets at the front and a new generation Hyundai music system. This isn’t a touch one and we aren’t sure if it has a coloured screen. The i20 also gets the new-generation Hyundai steering wheel and instrument cluster with a lot more data in the driver information system. Then there is of course the reverse parking camera too. The instrument panel of the new Elite i20 has been designed from scratch and it does feel like the elder sibling of the Grand i10. This is also the new design that Hyundai has followed for the next-generation vehicles.

Our sources also confirm that Hyundai India has imported 11 test mules from South Korea to complete the testing. The engine and transmission were exported from India for the assembly and testing of these 11 test mules in South Korea, after which they have returned to India as complete body unit. At the moment, the engine that are being tested are the 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine with five-speed manual transmission and the second is the 1.4-litre U2 diesel engine that comes mated to a six-speed manual transmission and the smaller market share one, will be the 1.4-litre petrol with a four-speed automatic transmission. There has been no sign of any automatic transmission, however we are sure the Korean manufacturer will introduce an automatic as it has been the need of the day.
