    Mercedes-Benz to launch GLE-Class on October 14

Mercedes-Benz mid-size premium SUV, the GLE, will be launched in India on October 14. The GLE-Class will be a replacement for the M-Class nomenclature, despite it is just another update of the M-Class. Reason? The manufacturer has decided to rebadge its cars and as the GL-Class will be known as GLC, the M-Class will now be relaunched with the name GLE. Seems like the manufacturer is aiming to bring in some uniformity by starting the initials of its SUVs from the letter G. The new GLE will be competing against the likes of BMW X3, Audi Q5 and the newly launched Land Rover Discovery Sport.

The upcoming GLE-Class’s front now looks more like many other latest Mercedes cars, like the C-Class, S-Class, CLS-Class, etc. The front has the same protruding snout flanked by the flowing headlamps with eyebrow like DRLs. The sides will remind of the current M-Class and so will the rear.

Inside of the car will see a minor facelift than the current car with a new infotainment screen and more rounded off AC vents and dash setup. It will also boast an all-new steering wheel.

Under the hood will be two diesel options. GLE-Class is expected to follow the M-Class trail here that currently offers two engines, a 2.2-litre in-line 4 cylinder and a 3.0-litre V6. Though both the engines are same in displacement, they will be more refined and fuel efficient because of minor tweaks to turbocharger, a new ECU and an automatic Start/Stop function. Transmission duties are given to an all new 9-speed automatic that is expected to be more advanced and better than the current 7-speed unit.
