Mercedes-Benz India has launched a special edition of the GLS SUV, which it says, draws inspiration from its flagship sedan, the S-Class. Called the GLS Grand Edition, the special edition of the SUV is priced at Rs 86.90 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India) for both the V6 petrol and diesel powertrain. The GLS Grand Edition commands a premium of Rs 4 lakh over the standard models.

The special edition SUV comes with ‘Grand Edition’ badging on the exterior, chrome fins on the bonnet and blacked out rings on the full LED headlamps. It features shiny black 20-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels, which are an inch bigger than the standard wheels. All the other bits remain the same as the other models.

Mercedes claims that the GLS Grand Edition’s cabin offers S-Class levels of comfort and luxury. It features ARTICO man-made leather upholstery with aluminium and open-pore ash wood trim. Nappa leather has been utilised for it’s three-spoke heated steering with paddle shifters. The Grand Edition’s instrument cluster has been redesigned and receives improved graphics while the semi-integrated, 8-inch COMAND touchscreen infotainment system receives Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The second row of passengers get two 7-inch HD screens for entertainment, which is not on offer on the standard model.

The engine department remains untouched and both the GLS 350 d and GLS 400 boast of a V6 motor under the bonnet. The diesel is a 3.0-litre engine that churns out 258PS of power and 620Nm of peak torque. The petrol motor is also a 3.0-litre brute that delivers 333PS and 480Nm of torque. Both share the same 9G-Tronic 9-speed auto gearbox which sends power to all four wheels. Related: New Spy Images Of Mercedes-Benz GLB Surface
