The second- largest luxury-car maker of the world, Mercedes India expects its sales to compete with the UK within the time of a decade because of the increasing wealth stokes demand. Wilfried Aulbur, head of the company's local unit commented that India is growing in a very strong manner. He said that the country should be up there with the UK or with other large European markets in 8 to 10 years. Daimler and Bayerische Motoren Werke AG have extended in the two fastest-growing major Asian economies, India and China, as the growing disposable incomes encourage demand for luxury goods. In China, the sales of Mercedes have increased 12-folds in the period of a decade because of the increasing number of millionaires. Deepesh Rathore, India managing director at IHS Automotive in New Delhi commented that looking at the fact that money is now easy, Indians opt for luxury cars and they want them now.

Daimler's sales in India raised  84 per cent in the earlier 8 months of the year to 3,497 units, stated  Aulbur. The sales of Mercedes-Benz in the UK increased  9.4 per cent to 44,794 during the same  period as per the Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders in London. The Mercedes sales got doubled to at least 87,400 vehicles in China through the month of  August.

Aulbur also added that as opinions and attitude change and as people make more money, they become much prone to spending on luxury vehicles. This shows a wide opportunity for going forward. According to the 2009 World Wealth Report by Cap Gemini SA and Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, the number of millionaires in India and China may also increase between 2008 and 2018.
