Maruti to set-up 3rd plant at Manesar

In a bid to regain the crucial market share of more than 50 percent and to meet the rising demand for its cars in the Indian market, the auto giant Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) is ready to set-up a new assembly plant near its Manesar facility. The production at the new plant is scheduled to commence from year 2013. This will be the third plant of the company at Manesar. The plant is expected to cost the company as much as 30 bn yen (356 mn dollars) and will have a manufacturing capacity of 2,50,000 units par annum. The new plant will take the total manufacturing capacity of the company to about 17,00,000 units in the Indian market.

Before this, the company had established a manufacturing plant at Manesar in the year 2007 with a total annual production capacity of 3,00,000 units. It is expected that the company will be manufacturing its some of the most popular subcompact cars at this plant including the best-selling Maruti Alto and volume driving Maruti Wagon R.

Meanwhile, the company is all set to launch two of its much anticipated cars in the Indian market including premium sedan Maruti Kizashi and small car Maruti Cervo. The Kizashi, which is expected to be launched in the Indian market in the upcoming Diwali festive season, will be the first-ever premium sedan model in Maruti's India portfolio. It is expected to be launched in the price range of Rs 12 to 16 lakh. On the other hand , Maruti Cervo which is a subcompact car, is expected hit the Indian roads by this year end. The Cervo model is expected to be launched in the price bracket of Rs 1.5 to 2.5 lakh wherein it will be competing with the cheapest car of India, Tata Nano.
