Maruti India sales skid 13% in August
Car market leader Maruti Suzuki India Limited sold a total of 91,442 vehicles in August 2011. This includes 14,356 units for export. The company had sold a total of 104,791 vehicles in August 2010. The disruption in production at Company’s Manesar plant in end August adversely impacted the sales numbers during the month. The Maruti Swift, Maruti SX4 and Maruti A-star are being manufactured at the Manesar plant.

Mini passenger cars manufactured by the company like Maruti 800, Maruti Alto, Maruti A-Star and Maruti WagonR accounted for 37496 units, on the other hand 16,043 units of the compact passenger hatchbacks like Maruti Swift, Maruti Zen Estilo and Maruti Ritz were sold. Maruti India managed to sell 7856 units of the super compact passenger car, Maruti Swift Dzire and 1893 units of the mid-size passenger car, Maruti SX4 in the month of August.

The company's entrant in the luxury car segment, Maruti Kizashi which was launched in the month of February this year continued its slow growth, the company could sell only 8 units of the luxury sedan. Apart from this Maruti Gypsy and Maruti Grand Vitara accounted for 1290 units out of the consolidated number of cars sold in August. Maruti's vans like Maruti Omni and Maruti Eeco contributed towards the sales volume with 12500 units.
