The brand-wise car sales figures for November 2023 are out, and although nothing has changed in terms of the top performing brands and their positions, the figures paint a picture of the market post October festivities. Maruti Suzuki led the chart, followed by Hyundai and Tata respectively. Each of the top 10 selling car brands of the previous month have experienced a month-on-month (MoM) loss in demand, while Kia, Skoda, and Volkswagen have also encountered a drop in year-on-year (YoY) sales.   • Maruti Suzuki witnessed a significant drop in MoM sales of 20 percent, but is still comfortably the best-selling car brand in November 2023, with unit sales of more than 1,34,000 units.

  • Hyundai hangs onto second spot in the monthly sales chart by retailing more than 49,000 cars in November 2023, though it too experienced a drop in MoM performance at a drop of 10 percent.

Tata Safari

  • With over 46,000 units sold in November, Tata retained the third spot in the sales table. Of all the remaining car brands, Tata's performance was  the most consistent in both MoM and YoY sales, with the lowest MoM loss of nearly 5 percent.

  • Mahindra firmly retains the fourth position in November 2023 by selling nearly 40,000 units. Although Mahindra’s MoM sales declined by 8.5 percent, its YoY sales went up by over 32 percent.

Kia Seltos

  • Kia was the fifth best-selling car brand in India in November 2023, having sold more than 22,700 units. Although Kia experienced a decline in both MoM and YoY sales, it is expected to regain market share with the launch of the Kia Sonet facelift in early 2024.

  • Toyota sold nearly 17,000 units last month and recorded the highest YoY growth of around 44 percent in November 2023. However, its MoM sales went down by over 3,600 units, a decline of over 17 percent.

Honda Elevate

  • Even Honda experienced a drop in MoM sales of 7 percent. The Japanese carmaker retailed more than 8,700 units in November 2023, recording positive YoY growth of nearly 24 percent. 

  • MG secured the eighth position on the monthly sales chart by selling over 4,000 units in November. Despite a loss in MoM sales, the brand maintained a consistent YoY demand. 

  • Skoda and Volkswagen are at the bottom of this list, falling short of the  4,000 units sales mark. Both brands have experienced losses in both MoM and YoY sales. Volkswagen recorded the highest loss of 24.3 percent in monthly sales.
