The wait for the Mahindra XUV500 Automatic Transmission version might take a little longer than expected. The variant is likely to hit the markets sometime in 2014 since Mahindra & Mahindra has to yet close down upon the source for the automatic transmission supplier, which results to a period of 2 years before which the finished model reaches the showrooms.

Currently, Drivetrain Systems International (DSI) is supplying the automatic transmissions for the Mahindra Scorpio. But the DSI automatic transmission cannot be used due to technological difficulty in fitting it to the transverse layout of the engine. There are speculations that the lower-cost 6-speed automatic transmission units with a torque convertor might be sourced from Hyundai for the XUV500.

Mahindra XUV500 is currently available in 2179cc manual diesel engine which delivers a power of 140bhp along with a maximum torque of 330Nm. Mahindra XUV500 comes at a price of Rs. 11.58 Lakh for the base model and goes up to Rs. 14.10 Lakh for the top of the range (ex-showroom New Delhi).
