Mahindra Vision S vs Vision X Concepts: Design Compared In Images
While both are sub-4m SUV concepts, their design characteristics are way different, with one being a boxy SUV and the other a sharp-looking crossover
On the occasion of India’s 79th Independence Day, Mahindra took the covers of not just one, but a total of four new concepts along with the announcement of a new platform. Among the four products shown, there were two concepts belonging to the sub-4m SUV space called the Vision S and Vision X. In this story, let’s see how they look inside and out, starting with the exterior:
Front
The Mahindra Vision S has a boxy stance, which is further complemented by the rectangular grille flanked by dual square-ish LED headlights on each side. It has vertically located LED DRLs, some LED inserts in the grille, multiple pixel-like LED pods as fog lamps, and a chunky skid plate to give it a modern touch. You can also notice a square-shaped radar in the bumper indicating that the SUV will be offered with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
In comparison, the Vision X has a more muscular look for a sportier appeal and features a split-headlight setup. While it has sleek LED DRLs, its LED headlights are positioned on the bumper. Mahindra has given it a large air dam with an X-shaped pattern and a silver skid plate beneath it.
Side
From the side, the Vision S will remind you of the Land Rover Defender, further accentuated by details like a ladder on the left C-pillar and a jerry can on the right. Its boxy profile is complemented by angular, chunky wheel arches that extend into the doors. You can also see the provision of dual-tone alloy wheels with road-focused tyres, flush-type door handles, and black roof rails on the sub-4m SUV concept.
On the other hand, the Vision X stands out with its smooth curves and muscular rear haunches. It sports 19-inch aero-styled alloy wheels. The rear door handles on the concept are located on the C-pillar. A gloss black body cladding with silver-finished side skirts adds contrast, while flush-type door handles with NFC access for all four doors underline its modern, tech-focused appeal.
Rear
The rear of the Vision S concept shows one of the most typical SUV-like traits of the SUV, with it featuring a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, reminiscent of SUVs like the Mahindra Thar and the Mahindra Bolero Neo. Its tail lights mirror the headlight design, while pixel-shaped rear fog lamps further echo the front lighting theme for a cohesive look.
At the rear, the Vision X maintains its sporty character with connected LED tail lights and an extended roof spoiler housing brake lights. A chunky black bumper with a silver skid plate adds contrast and reinforces its rugged yet stylish appeal.
Interior
Mahindra has left no stone unturned to make the cabin of the Vision S as modern as it can be. It comes with a dual-screen setup on the dashboard that is divided by the triangular-shaped AC vents. The Vision S concept is fitted with a 3-spoke steering wheel, featuring the ‘Vision S’ branding and knurled finishes for the steering-mounted controls, which will likely be for infotainment audio and cruise controls on the final production-spec model.
Its centre console also looks modern and has a gloss black finish highlighted by some silver elements. It features twin cupholders, a gear selector lever and buttons for electronic parking brake and auto hold functions. The seats come with navy blue and black themes, which make the cabin feel livelier.
When it comes to the Vision X, its cabin looks inspired by a fighter jet’s cockpit as seen on the BE 6, and its dashboard is finished in black while featuring a sportier-looking steering wheel. That said, the highlight is the fact that it’s the first Mahindra SUV to feature an integrated curved dual-displays setup.
Its seats have a 2-tone finish and are designed to go with the sporty nature of the Vision X concept. The centre AC vents seamlessly merge into the side vents, while the climate control display is positioned below them in two trapezoidal sections.
Common Platform
Both the new concepts are based on Mahindra’s new platform called the ‘NU IQ’. The platform is said to accommodate different types of powertrain, including an all-electric architecture.
Expected Launch And Rivals
While the production-spec Vision S is expected to go on sale in 2027, the Vision X will be introduced in the market sometime around mid-2028 or early 2029. Both the sub-4m SUVs will rival common competitors which include the likes of the Mahindra XUV 3XO, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, and Maruti Brezza.
