Mahindra Details Its MESMA 48 Platform On World EV Day
MESMA 48 doesn't just underpin compact cars like the eKUV100 but quadricycles like the Atom as well
Mahindra has revealed major details regarding its small EV platform, the Mahindra Electric Scalable Modular Architecture 48. This platform is capable of underpinning light EVs and has so far superstructured around 11,000 of them in India. It has supported the construction of not just compact cars like the eKUV100 but quadricycles like the Atom and three-wheeled electric vehicles.

This platform is quite cost-effective and once economies of scale are achieved, Mahindra promises to pass on the price benefits to the buyers. Here are some of the major highlights.

The MESMA 48 can accommodate battery voltage ranging 44V to 96V. The Tata Nexon EV, for reference, offers a 320V figure.

It can feature powertrains with power figures ranging between 6kW (8.1PS) to 40kW (54PS) whereas the torque figures range between 40Nm to 120Nm. The transmission ratios can also be altered according to the performance requirements.

EVs underpinned by MESMA 48 can achieve a top speed of 80kmph.

It is also compatible with rigid and flexible axle systems allowing operations for commercial as well as private EVs, respectively. These are equipped for hauling heavier loads as well as to serve a family.

The platform has also been optimized to offer one-stop solutions regarding key components such as drivetrain, battery pack, electronic control units and software calibrations.

The platform will be manufactured in India but the battery cells will be imported.
The MESMA platform has two other iterations as well: 72 and 350. The 350 will be utilized by the Ssangyong E100 and the upcoming eXUV300. The eXUV300 is slated for launch in the second half of 2021 for around Rs 15 lakh. It will rival the Tata Nexon EV.
