Mahindra Bolero To Be Updated For Upcoming Safety Norms
The updated SUV is expected to go on sale before 1 July 2019
- Driver airbag, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, seatbelt alert and high speed alert system to be standard on all cars from 1 July 2019.
- Currently, Bolero is not equipped with any of the above mentioned features.
- Later, the Balero will receive updates to comply with new crash test norms that are set to be enforced from 1 October 2019.
In order to make its best-selling SUV, the Bolero, comply with upcoming safety norms, Mahindra is planning to update it’s basic safety net. Recently, a Bolero equipped with ABS was spotted at a dealership, suggesting its imminent launch.
Starting 1 July 2019, all cars sold in India need to be equipped with safety features such as a driver airbag, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, high speed alert system and seatbelt reminder for front seats as standard. So expect the updated Bolero to be equipped with these features along with ABS. It is to be noted that the current Bolero misses out on all of the above-mentioned safety features.
While this update will make the Bolero comply with new norms, it won’t make the SUV ready for the upcoming crash safety norms, which will be implemented from 1 October 2019. However, Mahindra has already confirmed that it will update the Bolero to help it pass the new norms. The carmaker also said that the Bolero will also get BS6 engine ahead of the introduction of new emission norms in India from April 2020.
Currently, the Bolero is available with two diesel engine options. A 1.5-litre diesel engine that makes 71PS of power and 195Nm of peak torque and a 2.5-litre diesel unit that puts out 63PS and 195Nm. Both these engines are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
As far as pricing is concerned, the Bolero with the new safety features is expected to receive a marginal price hike compared to the current model, which is priced from Rs 7.19 lakh to Rs 9.42 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). However, the hike in prices is likely to be substantial when the SUV gets updated for the upcoming crash test norms.
