Ken Block’s Twin-Turbo 1420PS Mustang Breaks Cover!
With all this power in all the four wheels, Ken says that the car has become scary even by his standards.
If you are reading this article, it's safe to assume that you know who Ken Block is. And since you know Mr Block, I am sure you would remember his insane, one-of-a-kind, four-wheel–drive, 856PS, 1965 Ford Mustang. The Hoonicorn, as Mr Block calls it, was his companion in the Gymkhana 7 video, one of the smokiest of them all. Now, the Hoonicorn has gulped two turbochargers and also a lot of meth...anol to produce a massive 1420PS and become the Hoonicorn V2. Still, in the four-wheel–drive configuration, this rubber burner, this time, wears the 'Kill All TIres’ badge, rightfully.
What started life as a simple 1965 Ford Mustang, was overhauled for over two years to become Ken Block's ultimate driving machine. The car got a 6.7-litre Roush Yates V8 powerhouse which produced 976Nm of twisting force. Mated to this earth-mover was an unfortunate six-speed transmission which, courtesy to the added differential to the front, sends power to all the four wheels. Now, moving forward, the Hoonicorn has been given two massive open turbos to bump up the power by 564PS, this is about the same power which a Nissan GT-R makes! Also, this time, the engine is fed methanol rather than gasoline to extract more power and emit less heat.
On the outside, the Hoonicorn has been given reflective livery on a grey paint to make it pop out in photo shoots and videos. Also evident are the red and blue turbo intakes which sit proudly on the hood. The tyres are made out of a special compound by Toyo to emit maximum white smoke. Since the power, smoke factor and vapours from the methanol have increased considerably, Ken has been given an air pipe in the cabin. Also, the Hoonicorn gets a brand-new steering wheel.
