JLR drops Detroit Motor Show in favour of 2012 India Auto Expo

Tata Motor’s British subsidiary Jaguar Land Rover chooses 2012 Indian Auto Expo over the Detroit Motor Show. This is a news in itself when the luxury car manufacturer opted to focus on the Indian car market for future growth. There is absolutely no two ways about it as India is the second most fastest emerging car market across the globe after China. More than anything, the luxury car manufacturers especially see a good scope for growth in this segment in the country.

Despite the overall car market slowdown, the luxury car market has witnessed a steep growth curve. Moreover, the market experts predict a 30-40% growth in the car industry next year and Jaguar Land Rover doesn’t want to miss an opportunity as important as this. Because, the 2012 Auto Expo is the platform where the global car manufacturers like Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi from the luxury segment have many products to display. Audi India has Q3 lined-up for the show, while BMW has the diesel variant M50d of the BMW X6 series which could be JLR’s cup of tea going forward.

On the other hand, Jaguar Land Rover had managed to make its presence known at one of the North American Motor Shows recently at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The luxury car manufacturer had displayed two concept models of a sports car CX-16 and a DC100 at the prestigious Auto Expo. There will be around 18 car manufacturers ready to show their prowess in their respective fields with 60 vehicles in all for launch and display put together. As many as 2 million spectators across the globe are expected to turn up for the annual event to be held in New Delhi. The show stoppers for this year would be the Buggati’s Veyron SuperSports super car, BMW Mini line-up and Mercedes Benz B-Class hatchback for the upcoming event.
