Hyundai Showcases Sonata Plug-in Hybrid at Auto Expo 2016
Hyundai has showcased new generation Sonata at the 2016 Auto Expo in a plug-in hybrid avatar. Considering the segment, Hyundai might launch the Sonata in a hybrid avatar this time, if not the plug-in hybrid.

Hyundai India has revealed the 2016 Sonata plug-in hybrid sedan at the ongoing Auto Expo. The car is said to be 21 percent more efficient than the earlier version, incorporating smart technology to reduce power cost, as well as carbon footprints. The new next-gen Sonata will compete against Toyota Camry hybrid, in the segment. Earlier the car was only available with a petrol motor, but with this new-gen, Hyundai might launch the Sonata in a hybrid avatar this time, if not the plug-in hybrid, which has already been showcased at the Expo. Besides Camry hybrid, Honda is also expected to re-launch Accord in a hybrid version. All these vehicles attract benefits under the Government's FAME policy.
In terms of design, the new-gen car adopts Hyundai’s fluidic 2.0 design scheme, which makes it look sharper as well as flamboyant than the vehicle it will replace. Like the exteriors, the interiors are brand new and it comes with Hyundai’s latest 8-inch infotainment system - featuring Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto. In terms of safety, following the segment norm, it comes with a driver knee airbag besides dual front, side, as well as curtain airbags. Rest of driving aids like ESC, TC, ABS, amongst others, are also available.
Mechanically, Sonata hybrid is powered by a 2.0 litre GDI 4-cylinder gasoline engine in conjunction with 360V electric motor. The combination delivers 202 HP @ 6000 rpm of max power and is paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
