Global launch set for January 2016 in the home market, i.e., Korea, followed by Geneva and New York Auto Shows!

Hyundai Motors has teased and revealed the name of its new alternative-fuel vehicle. The car named as 'Ioniq' is the first vehicle in the world that will be available with all the three alternative-fuel options in a single body type, i.e., electric, plug-in gasoline/electric hybrid, or gasoline/electric hybrid powertrains. Hyundai Ioniq will be launched first in Korean market next month and will make its public debut at both the ends of the Atlantic, i.e., America and Europe in March 2016 at New York and Geneva Motor Show respectively.

Hyundai says that the name is coined out from the elements of its creation. An ‘ion’ is an electrically-charged atom, linking to the car’s clever combination of electrified powertrains. The second part of the name references the unique offering it brings to the Hyundai range. Finally, the Q is depicted in the car’s logo as a visual breakthrough, acknowledging the fresh new approach of this advanced, low-emission model.

Hyundai Ioniq will have world’s best selling hybrid car - 2016 Toyota Prius (read in details about - 2016 Toyota Prius - as its arch rival. And like the new Prius, Ioniq also looks more car-like as interpreted from the silhouette shown in the teaser image. The Korean automaker adds that the Ioniq’s platform is brand new and specifically constructed for it to handle all the three powertrains.
