Prices are likely to start at Rs 6 lakh and end a smidge under Rs 10 lakh

Update (05/11/2020):Hyundai has launched the third-gen i20 with prices beginning from Rs 6.79 lakh (ex-showroom). Read more about it here.

  • 2020 Hyundai i20 bookings open for Rs 21,000 through online and offline channels.

  • Four variants on offer: Magna, Sportz, Asta and Asta (O).

  • Engine choices: 1.2-litre NA, 1.0-litre turbo petrol, 1.5-litre diesel.

  • Only petrol engines get automatic transmission choices: CVT, iMT and DCT.

  • Six monotone and two dual-tone colours on offer.

  • The second-gen Elite i20 discontinued.

After releasing teasers of the third-gen i20, Hyundai has now opened bookings for the hatchback. You can reserve yours for Rs 21,000 through Hyundai’s online platform or by visiting their dealerships starting from October 28. The i20 is scheduled to launch on November 5 and the previous-gen model has now been discontinued.

The Hyundai i20 will be available in four variants: Magna, Sportz, Asta and Asta (O). As we’d reported earlier, the engine options will be similar to the Venue sub-compact SUV. So you’ll have to choose from a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (83PS/113Nm) paired to a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT, and a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol (120PS/173Nm) paired with a 6-speed iMT (clutchless manual) or 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. A 1.5-litre diesel (100PS/240Nm) with a 6-speed manual transmission is also on offer.

It will come in an extensive palette of monotone and dual-tone colours as follows:

  • Polar White

  • Typhoon Silver

  • Titan Grey

  • Fiery Red

  • Starry Night

  • Metallic Copper

  • Polar White with Black Roof

  • Fiery Red with Black Roof

Hyundai hasn’t revealed the feature set yet but if the powertrains are anything to go by, the equipment grade is going to be even higher. It will get all-LED lighting, sunroof, 10.25-inch touchscreen, semi-digital instrument cluster along with connected tech, air purifier, wireless charging and ambient lighting. Safety highlights should include six airbags, rear parking sensors, and electronic stability control.

Expect the i20 to come at an introductory price of around Rs 6 lakh and go all the way till Rs 10 lakh for the top trim. It will rival the likes of the Tata Altroz, Honda Jazz, Maruti Baleno and Volkswagen Polo.
