Hyundai i10 to Step in the Taxi Market of Major Metropolitan Cities
Hyundai Motors is now planning to introduce its popular hatch i10 for the taxi market in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Kolkata. Painted in black and yellow, the cabs will soon start their services in the selected metro cities. The South Korean automaker is introducing i10 in the Mumbai taxi market at the time when the city is expected to see 7,843 permits up for grabs in upcoming six months.
Rakesh Srivastava, Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing at Hyundai Motor India said, “Hyundai Santro is the most preferred car in the taxi segment on account of low cost of acquisition and low cost of operation. To build on this segment further, Hyundai would be introducing i10 - as a taxi option - so as to provide taxi operators with another option."
The taxi cabs will be offered with the CNG option which will be an aftermarket fitment and not as factory-fitted option. In a step to further bring down the cost, the automaker is offering Hyundai i10 in a new trim which does not offer power steering and A/C.
The i10 is a good car. However it has comparatively less space than Santro," said AL Quadros, general secretary of the Mumbai Taxi Union. "As long as it is appropriately priced for our market, it will be good for cab drivers to migrate to."
