The Civic will once again be available in India, now with a diesel engine too

Update: The Honda Civic prices start at Rs 17.7 lakh to Rs 22.3 lakh across India. The petrol CVT is available in V, VX and ZX variants and the diesel manual is available only in the VX and ZX variants. Full details are here.

  • New Civic to be launched on March 7 and will be available in three variants.

  • It is expected to be priced between Rs 17 lakh and Rs 23 lakh.

  • 2019 Civic will come with 1.8-litre petrol engine mated to CVT and 1.6-litre diesel engine mated to 6-speed manual.

Honda will finally be reintroducing the Civic in India, in its 10th-gen facelift avatar on 7 March 2019. The tenth-generation Civic has been on sale in certain international markets for a while now and the facelift was first introduced in 2018. Bookings for the new Civic are open in India for a token amount of Rs 31,000.

The 2019 Honda Civic will be available with two powertrain options - a 1.8-litre petrol engine mated to a 7-step CVT and a 1.6-litre diesel engine with a 6-speed manual transmission. It’s the first time that the Civic will be available in India with a diesel engine. The petrol unit has an output of 141PS and 174Nm while the diesel is good for 120PS of max power and 300Nm of peak torque. We’ve driven them both and you can read our first drive review here. There is no petrol-manual or diesel-auto option for now.

We’ve been previously informed that Honda will be offering the Civic in three variants. We expect them to be V, VX and ZX. A variant wise breakdown of the features list is not available yet. However, we do know that the top-spec 2019 Civic will be equipped with features like six airbags, vehicle stability control, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Honda Lane Watch (displays the rear-left view on nav screen) and dual-zone climate control.

We expect the 2019 Honda Civic to be priced between Rs 17 lakh and Rs 23 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, Honda will re-enter the sedan segment to take on rivals like the Toyota Corolla Altis, Hyundai Elantra and Skoda Octavia.
