Ford EcoSport Launches in China, India is Next
While India is still waiting for the compact SUV Ford EcoSport to launch here, the vehicle has been launched in China for 94,800 Yuan (Approximately Rs. 8.2 lakh). The Compact SUV will be jointly manufactured by Changan automobiles and Ford at Chongqing based facility. Since China is a petrol driven market, Ford has launched the EcoSport in two petrol engine options- a 1.0-litre, EcoBoost engine and 1.5-litre petrol motor. While there is only one model with a 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine, a total five variants get the 1.5-litre petrol engine.
The EcoSport has been offered with both the automatic and manual transmissions, however the top-end Titanium (1.0-litre EcoBoost powered) variant has only been made available with a manual transmission. However, there are reports coming in about Ford's plans of launching the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine mated to a six-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox soon.
If the Chinese version of the EcoSport is compared with its Indian and Brazilian counterparts, it has more legroom and space due to the bigger length. The China spec EcoSport is 4.28 metres long, while the Indian version will be a sub-4 metre.
Ford hasn't yet announced the Indian launch date for the EcoSport, we are expecting it to happen sometime in June, while the official bookings to start in May.
