Fiat 500 to be re-launched soon
Fiat is planning to re-launch its compact car model Cinquecento which is better known as Fiat 500. Cinquecento was initially launched in 2008 in an effort to create a market for high-end hatchbacks that cost as much as premium sedans. But all the marketing efforts which were planned to excel Cinquecento sales, failed. Only 68 units were sold.
On the contrary , Volkswagen performed really well by selling more than 300 units of Beetle since last November. Even in the sheer period of May-June only, over 100 units were sold.
Fiat Auto India CEO Rajeev Kapoor said that retro cars are a big hit with their distinctive looks and this is what, would be captured by the company in their new car campaign which will start in the next few months. The company has also delayed the launch of Bravo sedan which is one of its luxury cars.
By relaunching Fiat 500, the company is banking on the compact luxury vehicle segment. The car was also reintroduced in Europe in March 2007. The Indian model will have 1.3 litre CRDi multi-jet engine (that also powers the Punto, Maruti Swift and Tata Indica Vista) but this time Fiat plans to hit the market with some new features in the car.
