Chevrolet Enjoy Caught Doing Test Runs in Banglore
General Motors has been selling cars in India for quite some time now, but unlike other OEMs, the company did not grab much fan base. The company is now looking at strengthening its foothold in India and increasing its market share from 8 to 10 percent by enhancing its product line-up. During the Auto Expo 2012, General Motors India displayed an array of vehicles which are supposed to hit Indian shores in this one year. General Motors has recently rolled out a facelift version of its much-favored SUV Tavera under the name Tavera Neo3 which is quite capable of contending against the upcoming Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport. The next big launch planned by GM is the Chevrolet Sail hatchback and sedan.
Captiva, another Chevrolet SUV is going to be rendered a facelift to attract more customers and new MPV Chevrolet Enjoy is also paving its way in the Indian car market. GM together with its Chinese partner SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation) is in the process of building the Chevrolet Enjoy MPV. Recently near Bangalore, close to the company’s RD facility, the test version of Enjoy MPV was spotted. The sighted model looked exactly like the one showcased in the Auto Expo. The pictures reveal that there are 3 AC vents present on the dashboard; this might be an attempt to cut down on cost which could make the car a strong contender against Maruti Ertiga.
The upcoming Chevrolet Enjoy, Sail hatchback and Sail sedan would be drving power from a 1.4L diesel engine which will be produced at GM’s Talegoan facility specifically for the Indian market. This diesel engine could also be exported to other developing markets. The Chevrolet Enjoy launch is scheduled after the launch of Sail hatchback and Sail sedan which are also being built under the joint venture of SAIC and GM. MPVs are emerging as good substitutes for sedans as they deliver better handling experience and can carry more people in approximately same price. On account of the increasing love toward MPVs, GM is anticipated to finally leave a mark on the Indian car market.
