The XUV400 EV will rival the Tata Nexon EV Prime and Max

Update: Mahindra has taken the covers off of the XUV400 EV, having a claimed range of 456km.

Mahindra is all set to debut its first mass-market electric SUV, the XUV400 EV, on September 8. All the details of the electric SUV should be revealed on this date, while deliveries will commence from January 2023.

So, now that the teasers have started flowing in, here are the top 5 things you can expect to see onboard the Mahindra XUV400 EV:

Bigger Than The XUV300

The XUV400 EV is based on its ICE-powered counterpart but will be around 200mm longer. Sub-4-metre cars are eligible for tax benefits but the ruling is not applicable to EVs. So, the boot shape and the bumper of the XUV300 have been redesigned for the XUV400 EV. The wheelbase and in-cabin space won’t be affected by this but you’ll get a bigger boot.

Looks

The XUV400 EV will look similar to the XUV300 but with EV-specific elements. A closed grille with dual-tone black and copper elements, new alloy wheels, and a redesigned rear profile are some of the changes that we will be seeing onboard. The latest teaser shows the SUV in a new Blue shade.

Features

The Mahindra XUV400 EV will not only borrow the XUV300’s feature list but also get more equipment. We’re expecting features such as a large touchscreen system, the AdrenoX connected car technology, a digital driver’s display, electric sunroof, ventilated seats, cruise control, six airbags, and multiple active safety features.

Battery Packs And Range

Mahindra is expected to offer the XUV400 EV with multiple battery sizes and further, different claimed driving ranges. The maximum range could be around 450 kilometres, which is seen on its prime rival, the Tata Nexon EV Max.

Price And Rivals

The prices of the XUV400 EV are likely to be around Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). The range-topping variant/battery size option could go up to Rs 20 lakh. Its prime competitor will be the Tata Nexon EV Prime and Max. While the Prime claims to offer a range of 312 kilometres, the Max gets a bigger battery with a claim of 437 kilometres on a full charge. The Nexon EV range is priced from Rs 14.99 lakh to Rs 20.04 lakh.
