Kia is all set to launch the Kia Carens Clavis EV tomorrow, i.e. July 15. The Clavis EV will become the only electric MPV in its price category, and will be offered in a 7-seater layout only. Ahead of its launch, here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming electric MPV as we take you through its design, features, interior, and more…

Kia Carens Clavis EV Design

Design-wise, the Carens Clavis EV is expected to look very similar to the standard Carens MPV, but comes with some EV-specific elements to set itself apart. Up front, it will come with a closed-off grille with the charging port integrated within it. At the rear, it should continue to feature the connected LED light bar as seen in its ICE sibling.

It is expected to sport aerodynamic alloy wheels and slightly tweaked bumpers to set it apart from the standard model. Overall, the silhouette and design language is familiar.

Kia Carens Clavis EV Interior

Step inside, and the dashboard design and layout should remain similar to the ICE version. However, the infotainment and digital driver’s display will include EV-specific graphics and one can expect Kia to tweak the lower centre console to offer more storage space. The electric MPV will come with dual 12.3-inch connected screens, and a two-spoke steering wheel design that we have seen on new Kia models like the Syros and Clavis.

The interior will have a black-and-white dual-tone theme, and you will also get a retractable-lid storage compartment positioned between the front seats for enhanced practicality.

Kia Carens Clavis EV Features

The Clavis EV is expected to be loaded to the brim with convenience and safety features. The top ones will likely include powered and ventilated driver’s seats, wireless phone charging for both front and rear passengers, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear AC vents, a panoramic sunroof, and an auto-dimming inside rearview mirror (IRVM).

The safety net will likely consist of six airbags as standard, front and rear parking sensors, a tyre pressure monitoring system, a 360-degree camera with blind spot monitoring, and a Level-2 ADAS suite. The ADAS kit is expected to come with adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, driver drowsiness detection, and autonomous emergency braking.

Kia Carens Clavis EV Powertrain

The Kia Carens Clavis EV will come with a 51.4 kWh battery pack, which has a claimed range of 490 km (MIDC Part 1 + 2). Chances are that Kia could also introduce a smaller 42 kWh battery pack in lower variants to appeal to those who are on a stricter budget. The smaller battery pack would likely offer a claimed range of around 400 km.

Details about its electric motor are still kept under the wraps, but we expect it to be a front-wheel-drive (FWD) setup, with a power output ranging from around 135-170 PS.

Kia Carens Clavis EV Price And Rivals

The Clavis EV is likely to be priced from Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom). It does not have any direct competition as such, but will be a 7-seater alternative to the likes of the Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, and the upcoming Maruti e Vitara.
