Volvo to bring two green concept cars by 2015
Apart from delivering high performance and good fuel efficiency, every car maker has one more challenge in this changing car market i.e. meeting emission norms which are becoming stricter and stricter day by day. Contributing in saving environment, Volvo would be launching its two ‘green concept’ cars globally by 2015. Volvo is taking a big leap through this project and foresees immense opportunity in Indian car market. Volvo, which launched its SUVs Volvo XC90 and Volvo XC60 in India last year, gathering a market share of 0.5%, is eyeing at a 2% chunk of the premium car market this year, which is estimated to touch 20,000-25,000 units.

According to Volvo Auto India managing director-Tomas Ernberg said the concept cars — Volvo‘U’ sedan and ‘Universe’ S-class will be the names of two upcoming green cars. Although not disclosing much, he said that both of them would be equipped with online communication technologies. He added that these cars will have online features like live streaming of videos and technologies herein cars talk to each other. Ernberg termed Indian prospects to be fantastic for its cars and also said that India was one of the fastest growing markets for Volvo in terms of premium cars. He intimated that the company was looking at garnering a 10% market share in green cars segment by 2020, when the domestic premium car market reaches 1,50,000 units a year. Ernberg also made it clear that Volvo XC90 and Volvo XC60s are currently being manufactured in Sweden and Belgium and there are no plans to manufacture them in India in near future.
