Land Rover will bring new petrol engines to India

To tackle the recent ban on sale of diesel vehicles having a cubic capacity of or above 2,000cc in Delhi-NCR, Tata Motors’ owned Land Rover will be bringing in its international lineup of petrol engines, which include a 2-litre in-line four cylinder engine and a 3-litre V6 motor.

We can expect the 2-litre petrol engine to be used in the Range Rover Evoque, mated to a nine-speed automatic gearbox and the more powerful 3-litre V6 is most likely to power the Discovery, Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Land Rover’s current portfolio has a 5-litre supercharged V8 for certain models. Its current portfolio includes Range Rover Evoque, Discovery, Discovery Sport, Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover LWB.

The company also launched Discovery Sport in our market last year at a very competitive price of Rs. 46 Lacs. However, you cannot buy this vehicle currently in the Delhi NCR region as it uses a 2.2-litre diesel engine. This diesel ban has also taken its toll on Indian car manufacturer, Mahindra Mahindra and it has been developing a new 1.9-litre diesel engine which will be incorporated in the Scorpio and XUV5OO.

Jaguar Land Rover was acquired from Ford by Tata Motors in 2008, and the British automaker entered our market in 2009. JLR posted the highest global sales figure ever in 2015, retailing at 4, 87,065 vehicles for 2015, a five per cent increase from the year before.
