Land Rover Discovery

The Discovery is the middle child of the Land Rover family, sitting above the Discovery Sport and below the fabled Defender. It is a 7-seater off-road capable SUV, which is made for exploration and going long distances, while also offering a sense of luxury and comfort to its passengers inside. 

The Land Rover Discovery doesn’t have any direct rivals but it can be considered as a more off-road capable alternative to luxury-focused SUVs like the Audi Q8, Volvo XC90 and BMW X5. 

The 2025 Land Rover Discovery is a handsome-looking SUV, which unlike the flagship Land Rover model (Defender), takes a curvy approach to its silhouette.

The sleek wraparound Matrix LED headlights with even sleeker LED DRLs flank the grille, which can definitely be considered small for what ultimately is a big SUV. The Discovery lettering sits just above the grille, while you get a tiny Land Rover badge on the right side of the grille.

The bumper is curved, chiseled towards the side with multiple slats that add a touch of aggression, and has open air inlets in the middle. Depending on the trim you select, you get different finishes for the grille, the Discovery wordmark, and the lip down below. These variant-specific touches vary throughout the vehicle.

In profile, the design is relatively clean for an off-road capable SUV. No cladding or try-hard rugged elements, just a strong shoulder line running from the front fender and connecting to the wrap-around tail lights. It sits on 21-inch alloys in the lower variants, while the higher variants feature 22-inch alloy wheels with varying designs. A small Land Rover badge is present on the angled C-pillar. 

The design at the back is simple with sleek LED tail lights and a plain bumper design. What catches the eye almost immediately is the off-set number plate, which has been a trademark element of the Discovery for quite some time now.  

Land Rover offers different exterior colour treatments for the Discovery. The Fuji White shade with the Black roof comes under the Solid treatment. It gets four Metallic shades: Varesine Blue, Lantau Bronze, Eiger Grey, and Santorini Black – all offered with a black roof. The Sedona Red shade with the black roof is exclusive to the Gemini variant.

Lastly, there are two Premium Metallic shades: Carpathian Grey and Charente Grey – both paired with a black roof.

The cabin of the Land Rover Discovery is available in three themes: Ebony interior with extended Windsor leather and Ebony Headlining, Caraway interior with extended Windsor leather and Light Oyster Headlining, Light Oyster/Ebony interior with extended Windsor leather and Light Oyster Headlining. 

While there are multiple themes which can be picked as per preference, the design itself is pretty minimalistic, horizontal, and flat. Unlike other modern Land Rover’s, you don’t get a dual screen setup in the center console. There are physical knobs for temperature settings and touch sensitive buttons for other climate control functions. 

There’s generous use of leather on the seat, steering wheel, and even on the door pads.

Features

As you’d expect, the Discovery packs a lot of features. The list includes an 11.4-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital driver’s display, Meridian sound system, three-zone climate control, auto dimming IRVM, powered tailgate, 20-way powered front seats with heating and ventilation function, keyless entry, wireless phone charger, and heated and electrically folding rear seats.

The Land Rover Discovery boasts a full five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP. Helping it achieve that feat are a bunch of safety equipment, including multiple airbags, front and rear seat ISOFIX mounts, 360-degree camera, and a host of electronic aids like hill-launch assist, dynamic stability control (DSC), ABS with EBD, and roll stability control (RSC).

It only gets adaptive cruise control as part of its driver assistance features in India. Features like lane-keep assist and traffic sign recognition are not available.

With all the three rows up, the Discovery has a boot space of 258-litres. Fold the third row down, and it opens up a humongous 1137-litres of storage space. Even the second row can be folded away, after which you get 2391-litres of storage space.

Powering the 2025 Land Rover Discovery is a sole 3-litre, 6-cylinder, diesel engine, which comes mated to an automatic transmission (torque converter). Of course, power is delivered to all four wheels (all-wheel drive), and the powertrain also makes use of a mild-hybrid system.

The Land Rover Discovery is available in 5 variants: S, Gemini, Dynamic HSE, Metropolitan Edition, and Tempest.
