Jaguar Slashes Prices Of XE Petrol By Rs 2.65 Lakh
Base petrol version Rs 1.1 lakh cheaper than the diesel variant launched yesterday
In a bid to expand its customer base, British carmaker Jaguar launched the diesel variant of the XE sedan at an attractive starting price of Rs 38.35 lakh. While it made this official yesterday, it also slashed the prices of the petrol-powered variants of the XE. The launch prices of the Pure, Prestige and Portfolio variants stood at Rs 39.9 lakh, Rs 43.69 lakh and Rs 47.99 lakh, respectively. After the revision, the new prices for the three variants now stand at Rs 37.25 lakh, Rs 41.04 lakh and Rs 45.34 lakh. That’s a considerable cut of Rs 2.65 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi).
While we welcome price slashes, this move from Jaguar isn’t a surprising one. After announcing prices of the diesel-powered XE variants, it just had to bring the prices of the petrol variants down. Another reason for the reduction in prices is the continuous downfall of GBP (Great British Pound) value against INR (Indian Rupee). This has been happening since procedures for Brexit began.
All three trims of the XE Petrol - Pure, Prestige and Portfolio - feature the same engine. It is a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder motor that produces 200PS of power and 320Nm of torque. The engine comes mated only to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and power is sent to the rear wheels only. These figures are enough for the car to hit 100kmph from a standstill in 7.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 237kmph.
Apart from the T5 and T6 variants of the Volvo S60, no other car in the segment has more power than the Jaguar XE petrol.
