Here Are All The Cars Crash Tested By Bharat NCAP In The First Half Of 2025
Carmakers like Maruti, Kia and Toyota debuted in Bharat NCAP, while Tata and Mahindra cars received the best crash safety ratings in the first 6 months of 2025
After its inception in August 2023, Bharat NCAP has ramped up its efforts and tested several models in quick succession. In 2025 alone, it has evaluated nine cars till June, including popular offerings such as the Maruti Dzire, Tata Harrier EV, Kia Syros, Skoda Kylaq, Mahindra XEV 9e and Maruti Baleno. While most of these models secured a full 5-star safety rating, a few received a slightly lower 4-star score.
Here is a detailed look at all the cars tested by Bharat NCAP in 2025 so far.
Maruti Dzire

Maruti Dzire was the carmaker’s first car to be crash tested in Bharat NCAP and it scored a 5-star safety rating for both AOP and COP.
In its AOP test, it offered ‘good’ protection to the driver and co-driver’s head, neck, pelvis ,thighs and feet. Both tibias of the driver and the co-driver’s right tibia received ‘adequate’ protection. While protection to the driver’s chest was rated ‘marginal’, for the co-driver’s chest it was ‘adequate’.
In the side movable deformable barrier test, all parts of the occupant were rated ‘good’, except the chest, which received ‘marginal’ protection. However, all parts of the passenger received ‘good’ protection in the side pole impact test.
In the COP test, the Dzire scored 8 out of 8 and 4 out of 4 in both frontal and side crash tests for the 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies.
Tata Harrier EV

The Tata Harrier EV is one of the most recent crash test by Bharat NCAP and it has become the safest Tata offering with a full AOP score and a 5-star rating.

In all the adult occupant tests (both frontal and side), it offered ‘good’ protection to all critical parts of the passengers.
In the COP tests too, it scored full points in both the frontal and side crash tests of the 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies. However, it lost some points in the vehicle assessment score (9/13 points), which brought down the overall COP score to 45 out of 49.
Mahindra XEV 9e

The Mahindra XEV 9e also has an identical score to its prime rival, the Tata Harrier EV. Hence, the XEV 9e is the safest Mahindra SUV to be crash tested by Bharat NCAP.
Like the Harrier EV, all parts of the adult occupant(s) received ‘good’ protection in both the frontal and side crash tests.
In the COP tests too, the XEV 9e scored full points in all crash tests involving both the 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies.
Mahindra BE 6

The Mahindra BE 6 was also crash tested by Bharat NCAP alongside the XEV 9e in January 2025.
In its AOP tests, it lost points in the frontal offset deformable barrier test, where the driver’s right tibia received a ‘marginal’ protection, compared to a ‘good’ protection to other key areas of the driver and co-driver. In the side crash tests too, all parts of the occupant were rated ‘good’.
In its COP tests, the Mahindra BE 6 scored full 8 out of 8 in the frontal and 4 out of 4 in side crash tests for both 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies.

Skoda Kylaq

The Skoda Kylaq was also crash-tested by Bharat NCAP in January 2025 and it scored a full 5-star safety rating for both adult and child occupant protection. With a 30.88 rating in its AOP test, it has become the safest sub-4m SUV in India to be tested by the indigenous testing agency.
In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the Skoda Kylaq offered ‘good’ protection to all parts of the co-driver. The scenario is similar for the driver which scored ‘good’ rating on all critical areas except the left tibia and chest, where it manages to provide ‘adequate’ protection.
In the side movable deformable barrier test too, the occupant’s chest was rated ‘marginal’, while other parts received ‘good; protection. In the side pole impact test, all parts of the passenger were rated ‘good’.
In the COP tests, it scored full points for both the child dummies, but lost points in the vehicle assessment test.
Kia Syros

The Kia Syros is the carmaker’s first car to be crash tested by Bharat NCAP, and while it earned a 5-star safety rating for both AOP and COP, it had a lower overall score than the Skoda Kylaq.
In the side crash tests for adults, it provided ‘good’ protection to all critical parts of the occupant. In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, however, it provided ‘marginal’ protection to the driver’s chest and both tibias, and the co-driver’s left tibia. Other critical parts of both front occupants received ‘good’ protection.
On the other hand, in the COP tests, it scored a full 4 out of 4 points in the side crash tests involving both dummies. In the frontal crash tests, however, it earned 7.58 out of 8 points for the 18-month-old dummy and 7.84 out of 8 points for the 3-year-old-child.
Maruti Baleno

The Maruti Baleno is one of the few cars in India that do not come with six airbags as standard. Bharat NCAP has tested both versions of the premium hatchback with two airbags and with six airbags.
The variants with 2 airbags offered ‘good’ protection to only the driver’s and co-driver’s head and neck. All other critical parts of the co-driver were marked ‘adequate’. The driver’s tibias and feet received ‘adequate’ protection, while the chest, pelvis and thighs were rated ‘marginal’. In the side movable deformable test, protection to the occupant’s head and abdomen were rated ‘adequate’, the chest received ‘marginal’ protection and the pelvis was rated ‘good’. However, all parts of the passenger received ‘good’ protection in the side pole impact test.
In the 6 airbags variants, the frontal offset deformable barrier test returned a similar score. However, this variant fared better than the 2 airbag trims by offering ‘good’ protection to the occupant’s head, abdomen and pelvis, while having an ‘adequate’ rating in the chest in the side movable deformable barrier test. However, in the side pole impact test, all critical areas were rated ‘good’.
Both iterations of the Baleno performed similarly in COP tests with full 4 out of 4 points in the side protection of both 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies. However, they lost points in the frontal crash tests, where it recorded a 7.17 out of 8 points for the 18-month-old dummy and 1.63 out of 8 with the 3-year-old dummy.

Tata Nexon EV

Although Bharat NCAP crash tested the Tata Nexon EV in 2024, the sub-4m e SUV received an update in September 2024 which rendered it with a bigger 45 kWh battery pack. BNCAP tested these new variants in 2025.

In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, it scored ‘good’ protection to all parts of the driver and co-driver, except the driver’s chest and tibias and the co-driver’s right tibia. While it offered ‘good’ protection to all parts of the passenger in the side pole impact test, in the side movable deformable barrier test, the occupant’s chest was marked as ‘adequate’.
In the COP tests, it scored full 8 out of 8 and 4 out of 4 in both frontal and side crash tests involving the 3-year-old dummy. However, it lost some points in the frontal crash test of the 18-month-old child (7.95/8 points), but scored full marks in the side crash test.
Toyota Innova Hycross

The Toyota Innova Hycross is the carmaker’s first offering and the first MPV in India to undergo the Bharat NCAP crash test.
It offered ‘good’ protection to all parts of the occupant in both the side crash tests. However, in the frontal offset deformable barrier test, chest protection of both front passengers and left tibia of the driver were marked’ adequate’. Other critical areas of both passengers were rated ‘good’.
In the COP tests, the Innova Hycross earned full points for both the frontal (8 out of 8 points) and side (4 out of 4 points) for the 18-month-old as well as the 3-year-old dummies.
