Here’s a look at what the true entry point for the Venue has to offer

After just over a year since its launch, the Hyundai Venue has been given a few updates with the star addition being the segment-first clutchless manual transmission -- or the iMT as Hyundai likes to call it. It is currently offered in a total of 6 variants and three engines: 1.2-litre petrol, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel. The engine options vary between variants and the Venue S is first in the lineup to be available with all of them. It costs a lot over the base-spec but does it offer enough features to be a worthy choice on a tight budget?

Before we dive into the variants, here’s a quick look at the powertrain specifications of the Hyundai Venue:

Verdict

The Venue S should ideally be the entry point for this sub-4m SUV. Yes, it still looks like a lower-spec option with the smaller 15-inch steel wheels with wheel covers and halogen headlamps but you do get roof rails, body-coloured wing mirrors and a chrome grille that enhances the Venue’s style quotient a bit. Inside the cabin, the Venue S still has fabric upholstery but there’s also an audio system to keep you entertained, steering-mounted controls, power windows all around, a front centre armrest and rear AC vents.

The Venue S is also the entry-point for the 120PS turbo-petrol engine and it even gets the choice of the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. It is the most powerful engine option for the Venue and the only one in the segment to offer the DCT automatic, which is more refined than most torque convertor options offered by rivals. The manual shifter costs over a lakh extra over the 83PS petrol engine option but you also get more performance and safety features.

Overall, the Venue S is a decent option if your budget is around Rs 9 lakh and you need a manual transmission. However, the S doesn’t offer enough features in the petrol-DCT version to justify the huge premium.
