Toyota to enter the compact SUV segment with Rush

With the advent of compact SUVs like Renault Duster, Audi Q3 and upcoming Ford EcoSport, this segment of the market has started catching pace. And to further maintain this pace, Toyota is soon going to bring in their compact SUV which is christened as Toyota Rush. The SUV is currently available in Japan, Chile, Turkey, Malaysia and China, and soon adding to the list would be India. The SUV is expected to come in the year of 2014 and the speculated price bracket is Rs. 8-12Lakhs.

The current generation model of the Rush was launched in 2006 and the next generation model is expected next year. This new 3rd generation model is the variant that we might see in India. Though no details have been disclosed yet but Toyota is expected to bring in diesel variant, since for the Indian market a SUV without diesel variant will not make an impact. No details have yet been disclosed but the SUV might have both short and long wheel base.

The short wheel base would allow a seating for 5 and 7 people would be able to accommodate in the long wheel base variant. Both these variants are currently being sold in the Malaysian market. Under the hood, it is speculated that Toyota will use the same engine from the Corolla Altis, which is the 1.4-litre D4-D diesel engine, for Rush in India. The petrol variant is expected to be powered by the 1.4-litre petrol engine that is currently the heart of the Etios sedan. It is still too early to talk in detail about the SUV as the plan is still in its initial stages. The models, engines, pricing etc. are yet to be disclosed by Toyota.
