Toyota India mulls rolling out diesel varinats of Etios sedan

The Japanese Auto maker Toyota India is now looking forward to manufacture diesel cars in India. The officials said that the company is planning to launch the diesel version of their Toyota Etios sedan. Sailesh Shetty Toyota Kirloskar Motor Vice President (Sales and Dealer development division) said that their plan to launch the Toyota Etios diesel is on the cards but first they will concentrate on the sales of Toyota Etios and the Toyota Etios Liva in the market and then based on the demand of these two cars they will look forward to manufacture the diesel variant of the sedan.

The company’s major sales at present are from the Toyota Altis, Toyota Innova and their premium SUV named Toyota Fortuner. According to the manufacturers in the industry the demand for the diesel cars is increasing at a very high rate due to the regular increase in the petrol prices in the country. It is noticed that the Ford Figo diesel variant accounts for 60% accrued sales of Ford Figo. Mr. Sailesh Shetty also told the reporters that they would consider the manufacturing of the diesel variant for their new Toyota Etios Liva once their engine plant is operational.

Toyota India would be increasing their Bangalore plant by investing an amount of Rs. 3,200 crore for the manufacturing of the Toyota Etios and the engines for other Toyota Models. The company at present is importing the diesel engines from Japan. As per the demand in the future the company will take a step forward to manufacture the diesel engines in India for the Toyota Etios diesel and the Toyota Etios Liva diesel.

The company had already said that they aim to sell 60,000 cars in this year has reduced the time period for the delivery of the car and the booked cars will be delivered within 30 days time period.Beside Toyota Altis, Toyota Innova and their premium SUV named Toyota Fortuner car in India the company also has Toyota Camry, Toyota Prado, Toyota Land Cruiser and Toyota Prius as Completely Built Units in India.
