He further added that the 1.4-liter turbocharged diesel engine version would see monthly numbers for the Altis going up to around 1100 units. “While we expect the diesel to sell more than petrol in the first few months, the ratio is expected to stabilise and stay equal later,” he added.

The launch of the new variant of the Toyota Corolla Altis is also speculated to fire up competition in the premium sedan segment in India as there are already a good number of strong contenders present in the class such as Volkswagen Jetta, Chevrolet Cruze, Honda Civic and Skoda Laura. One of the best selling sedan in the aforesaid list is Chevrolet Cruze that attracts 800 customers every month whereas the per month sales in the class is around 3,000 units which is further expected to go up due to growing economy with considerable rise in the demand.

I was an ardent admirer of Toyota and was waiting for the launch of ALTIS DIESEL to replace my Corrolla. But was totally disapointed to test drive the 1400 cc Engine which never appealed to me. I went for Cheverlet Cruze. Capt.Girisan
