Tata Nano going to be the 2nd best selling car in India by FY 11

Tata Nano, Tata’s small car and world’s cheapest car is on the way of becoming second best selling car of India next year as per a report of JD Power, a market research firm. According to this report, Tata Nano will take place of Hyundai's i10 which has got the chances of being on the second position in 2010 after Maruti Alto. The third position in this regard will be occupied by Tata Indica. The report also says that after the increased production of Tata, Tata Nano is projected to be on the number two rank in the year 2011.

Senior Market Analysts Marvin Zhu and Ammar Master have written that the top three models by 2017 will be the Maruti Alto, Tata Nano and Maruti Wagon R. At present, Maruti Alto is the highest selling car in India, selling around 25,000 units each month.

According to the report, in the year 2010, the joint sales of sub- compact and mini vehicles will be 9,97,000 units, rising to 3.14 million units by the year 2017. In this fiscal, the Indian domestic passenger car market is developing at a rate of around 30 per cent each month. Tata Motors had introduced its small car Nano in 2009. Currently, the company is delivering the first lot of one lakh Nanos to the customers. Tata produces its Nano from its Sanand facility in Gujarat. This facility possesses the capacity of producing 2.5 lakh units annually.

JD Power report further says that keeping the production costs low will be the real challenge for the low-cost cars’ producers in India. They will also have to meet the increasing consumer aspirations. The government provides tax incentives to the buyers of small cars for the promotion of fuel efficient mode of transportation.
