It could be introduced with the BS6 engine update as the new top-spec XZ+ variant

  • Harrier spied with a panoramic sunroof, new 18-inch alloy wheels.

  • Tata doesn’t offer the Harrier with a sunroof from factory; a smaller version is offered as an accessory.

  • The Harrier comes with 17-inch alloys in the current top-spec XZ variant.

  • New Harrier XZ+ with premium features could be introduced alongside the BS6 engine update in early 2020.

  • The XZ+ could be priced at a premium of Rs 1 lakh over the XZ variant of the updated Harrier.

The Tata Harrier was launched in India in early 2019 and has enjoyed a certain degree of popularity and commercial success. As a mid-size SUV offering with prices starting from Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), Tata has since updated the Harrier with more cosmetic options and accessories. However, a new top-spec XZ+ variant may get the features the SUV has been missing out on.

Tata launched the Harrier without a sunroof and later began offering it as an official accessory for a premium of close to Rs 1 lakh. However, the MG Hector, which is one of its closest rivals, comes equipped with a panoramic sunroof. Tata had initially shared its plans to offer the Harrier with a fixed glass roof instead. Now, these latest spy shots suggest that Tata may have opted to fit the flagship SUV with a panoramic sunroof after all, straight from the factory.

The same Harrier is also seen running on 18-inch alloys, similar in design to the alloy wheels seen on the Geneva Edition model showcased at the 2019 Swiss show. The Harrier is currently only available with 17-inch alloy wheels that have been criticised for looking too small for the SUV.

The Tata Harrier is due two major updates in its range by early 2020 - a BS6 version of its 2.0-litre diesel engine and an automatic transmission option. Added features like the panoramic sunroof and larger wheels may be introduced alongside the powertrain update in a new top-spec variant. Tata’s current nomenclature suggests that it could be called the XZ+ as the current top-spec variant is just XZ.

Since its launch, Tata has also introduced dual-tone options and a Dark pack variant for the top-spec Harrier. The dual-tone’s blacked out roof comes at a premium of Rs 20,000 while the sunroof accessory is listed at Rs 95,000. The new XZ+ variant is likely to be priced at a premium of around Rs 1 lakh over the XZ variant, which is priced at Rs 16.76 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
