With the race for EV development heating up in India, Tata had announced a new Ziptron EV technology that will underpin its future electric cars. Now, the Pune-based carmaker has confirmed that it will be the Nexon EV that will bear this technology when it’s launched in India in Q4 of FY 2019-20 (Jan-Mar).

The Tata Nexon EV will feature a 300V electric motor and aims to deliver a range of 300km per charge. The system features fast-charging capability and Tata will back the electric motor and battery pack with an 8-year standard warranty. Design-wise, the Nexon EV is likely to take cues from the facelifted Nexon which is also expected to launch next year.

Tata claims prices could range between Rs 15 lakh to Rs 17 lakh. Currently, the Tata Nexon with its conventional engines is priced between Rs 6.58 lakh and Rs 11.10 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Tata Motors will be setting up 300 fast-charging stations by mid-2020 to support its new crop of EVs.

Tata had earlier announced a total of four new electric cars for India till late 2020. The other three includes the Altroz EV, the Tigor EV with a bigger battery pack and a mystery offering that could be based on the ALFA-ARC and OMEGA-ARC platforms that underpin the Altroz and Harrier respectively.

Once launched, the Tata Nexon EV will rival the Mahindra XUV300 EV which is scheduled to launch in mid-2020. EVs from Maruti Suzuki and MG are expected to show up in 2020 as well. Which one of these EVs are you excited about? Let us know in the comments.
