Suzuki 1.0-liter Boosterjet: Which Other Maruti Cars Will Get It?

Maruti Suzuki has debuted the 1.0-litre turbocharged ‘Boosterjet’ petrol engine in the country at the recently held 2016 Auto Expo. The engine will go on sale with the Baleno RS during festive season this year. After the arrival of a sportier version of Baleno, it is expected that Maruti will also offer this engine within the country in other offerings, maybe in the year 2017 or later.

The engine we are talking about is a 1.0-litre direct injected turbocharged petrol. The motor chucks out a meaty 110 horses with a max torque of 170 Nm. Baleno RS is likely to be mated to a 5-Speed manual gearbox. Coming to the other models, Vitara Brezza , which will only offer a diesel option as of now, appears to be the most promising bid for this motor. There are reports suggesting that the automaker is mulling for a petrol version of this vehicle. The sub-4m SUV might also get the 1.2-VVT initially. But on a latter stage, it is expected to feature this engine in a sportier avatar.

Besides all that, Ciaz may also offer this engine, as its 1.4-litre VVT petrol engine is relatively less powerful as compared to City’s or Verna’s motor. The automaker might offer it at the time of a mid-life update of this sedan. Better late than never. A lot of manufacturers in sub-10 lac bracket have started offering downsized petrol engines in India - like Ford, VW and Tata. Eventually, these engines are the future, as they return decent fuel efficiency without losing on power. Like everyone else, it is expected that Maruti Suzuki will filter down this engine in its lineup, in near future.
