Skoda Kylaq Turbo Petrol MT vs Maruti Fronx Turbo Petrol MT: Real World Performance Compared
Both the Kylaq and Fronx have a 1-litre turbo-petrol engine, but which one performs better in our tests? We find out
The Skoda Kylaq is the carmaker’s most affordable sub-4m SUV offering in India that gets a powerful 1-litre turbo-petrol engine from the bigger Skoda Kushaq and Skoda Slavia. Priced between Rs 8.25 lakh and Rs 13.99 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India), it goes up against the Maruti Fronx, which also offers a similarly sized turbo-petrol engine.
We recently tested the turbo-petrol manual variants of both these models to evaluate their real-world performance. But before we get into the details, let us first take a look at the engine specifications of these sub-4m offerings:

The table clearly shows that the Skoda Kylaq delivers a notable 15 PS and 30 Nm more than the Maruti Fronx. Both engines are also offered with an optional 6-speed torque converter automatic.

Even though the Skoda Kylaq has more power and torque on paper, the Maruti Fronx turned out to be slightly quicker in our tests. It did the 0 to 100 kmph run in 10.38 seconds, just 0.03 seconds faster than the Kylaq. The gap was equally small in the quarter mile test, where the Fronx finished in 17.31 seconds while the Kylaq took 17.33 seconds.

While the Maruti Fronx was slightly quicker in acceleration, the Skoda Kylaq proved to be stronger in braking. It stopped from 100 kmph in 39.43 metres, which is 1.87 metres shorter than the Fronx. A similar result was seen in the 80-0 kmph test, where the Kylaq stopped in 24.32 metres compared to the Fronx's 26.23 metres.
