Renault has introduced the 1-litre variant of Kwid with an AMT Easy-R transmission today at the Auto Expo. This will further help Renault to expand Kwid’s success in higher segments. The 800cc variant has already crossed 85,000 bookings and is still rolling with momentum. More than its engine, Kwid has received appreciation for its value for money and the body shape, which resembles that of an SUV. The 800cc Kwid entered the top 10 selling cars for the first time in December, last year. It overtook Hyundai Eon, but is still chasing after the segment king, Alto. The 1-litre car will be launched in mid-2016 with a price tag of around Rs. 4 lac.

The engine is a 1.0-litre, CSe unit, which might have an output of around 77bhp with 90Nm of torque. This car will go head to head with the 998cc VVT Eon and the 998cc Alto K10. If priced smartly, which will most likely be the case, this 1-litre Renault Kwid AMT could easily outsell Eon and even Alto K10.

In December 2015, Renault registered a massive growth of 160%. It sold 10,292 units against 3,956 sold in December 2014. Out of these 10,292 units, 6,888 were Kwid. In the 2015 calendar year, Renault sold 53,847 unit, 20.1% more than 2014. Soon after Kwid’s launch in September 24, 2015, the car received 25,000 bookings and by the end of October the bookings rose to 50,000. As a result, waiting period for the car touched the 2 months mark.

The carmaker also showcased a more rugged, off-roady Kwid Climber alongside a more sporty version of the entry level hatchback at the automobile event. The highlight of updates are limited to the decals they flaunt and exclusive color schemes that they are showcased in.
