The recall has been issued due to a potential risk with rear seatbelts in event of a frontal crash.

A combined 21,513 units of both Taigun and Virtus have been affected by the recall.

The voluntary callback has been listed on the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) portal.

More than 21,000 units of Volkswagen Taigun and Volkswagen Virtus have been recalled in India due to a potential safety risk due to malfunctioning seatbelts on the rear seats. The recalled models include the units that have been manufactured between May 24, 2024 and April 01, 2025.
Notably, this is not the first callback of the two Volkswagen offerings, as 38 units of both Taigun and Virtus were recalled in 2024 due to missing welds on suspension arms, leading to a loss of stability on the roads. However, the current recall is the largest for both cars in terms of volumes. Here’s everything you need to know about the most-recent recall:
Reason For The Recall
As mentioned above, the recall is being made due to a safety risk associated with the malfunctioning of rear seatbelts. In the unfortunate event of the frontal collision, the rear seatbelt’s latch plate (image attached below) can break.
Along with this, the collision can also lead to the failure of the rear centre and rear right passenger’s seatbelts. All of this poses a potential threat to the rear seat passengers on both the Taigun and Virtus.
What Can Owners Do Now?
Volkswagen is yet to issue a statement regarding the voluntary recall. However, the information has been listed on the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) portal. We can expect the carmaker to issue an official statement with some directives soon about procedures to get the faulty equipment replaced.
As with any recall, we expect the German carmaker to contact owners of these affected vehicles and bring in their vehicle for inspection. The affected part should be replaced at no extra cost.

Should You Continue To Drive The Recalled Models?
Volkswagen has yet to specify if the affected units of the Taigun and Virtus are safe to be driven in their current condition. Moreover, the recall is being issued due to a potential risk to the rear passengers, so we feel that until the rear seats are occupied, both German offerings are safe to drive.
That said, we recommend that if your vehicle falls under the timeline of the recalled cars, you should get it fixed at the earliest as this is a safety hazard.

In terms of features, both cars are equipped with 6 airbags (as standard), electronic stability control (ESC), hill hold assist, ISOFIX child seat mounts, rain-sensing wipers, and a rear parking camera.
