Amid the advancing technologies in the automotive arena, Audi has come up with a new system that will give complete information to the driver about the traffic signals. Tagged as the Audi Traffic Light Information (ATLI) system, it helps you know how much time is left for the green signal in front of you to go red. You can then accordingly decide whether to accelerate or decelerate in order to cross/stop at the signal. Initially, however, it will operate only in select cities in the US.

To start with, the German carmaker will install this system in the upcoming 2017 Audi Q7 and Audi A4 models. Under this system, the cars, through built-in LTE (Long Term Evolution) data modem, will communicate with compatible traffic-light management systems and inform drivers when the upcoming signals are going to change.

After taking inputs from the traffic-light managements units, the Audi’s information system will display the procured info in the instrument cluster or heads-up display as the car approaches the light that’s about to change. The ATLI system stops four seconds before the signal change, with the understanding that the driver is watching the lights by himself, said Justin Goduto, Audi’s spokesperson.

With the introduction of this technology, the Stuttgart-based carmaker hopes to help drivers divert their route and reach their destination via a more efficient route. Lastly, the automaker’s traffic-light information system will be offered along with the Audi Connect Prime telematics package in several of its upcoming 2017 models.
